Ministries
Besides programming for children through seniors, Grace also reaches out to serve in the community and the world in the following ministries…
Members of Grace care for the church community by engaging in a variety of ministries from Hospitality and Fellowship to Properties and Altar Guild.
Members make quilts for warmth and shelter for people in need around the world through Lutheran World Relief.
WELCA (Women of the ELCA) gather monthly for meetings and host a yearly Community Chili Supper.
Volunteers regularly work at the Daybreak Shelter in Joliet as well as at Kuzma Care which serves the local Wilmington community.
Grace is also the home for two weekly meetings of Weight Watchers and a weekly AA meeting. Grace is also the meeting place for many Rainbow Council events of the Boy Scouts of America.
Since 2006, Grace has had a team participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, each year raising over $2000 to qualify for the bronze level. This is a large community event in August for the Wilmington/Braidwood area.
A group of adults traveled to Ocean Springs, Mississippi to help with the ongoing relief/rebuilding efforts from Hurricane Katrina. “It may seem like that hurricane is just a part of our past,” said Teri Dicken who is helped to coordinate the mission trip, “but there are still people in need and so much rebuilding that needs to be done. It was good to put our faith in action and lend a hand.”
Our Home Bound Communion team visits our homebound members and friends and shares communion with them.
Grace is also a safe place for those who need to work community service hours. And we are blessed to be part of the work program for those with special needs from our local high school.
